The Genesis Account of Noah's Ark Curriculum Design
Project Goal
I was tasked by Answers in Genesis to design a full, 12-lesson curriculum from scratch given only the written/video content originated from the Canada Answers TV series titled: The Genesis Account of Noah's Ark. This curriculum would be for pre-teen/teens in the context of either individual and small group studies.
Design Initiative
Before diving into the inside content of the curriculum, I started designing the Student Guide cover, as it would make way for the rest of the curriculum stylistically. My goal was to create a cover that would appeal to the high school audience, a little more mature for children yet still playful in appearance.

After designing the cover. I was then able to start on the inside content.
Color
As you can see on the cover, blue was the dominant color throughout the curriculum, which reflects the Great Flood. Red was a secondary, compliment color used tactically throughout the curriculum.
Fonts
I used two primary fonts for the entirety of this curriculum. For titles/headings, I used Servus Slab Bold. For body copy, I used Noto Serif Regular. Here is a basic look of how these fonts would be used throughout the curriculum:
Icons
This curriculum needed multiple icons as each lesson had consistent headings throughout, making icons a nice touch to create unity throughout the lessons. These icons were licensed and curated through Adobe Stock.
Design Elements
As mentioned earlier, I wanted this curriculum to fit the age group it was designed for. So, when creating and curating different design elements, I was very intentional in giving everything an "edgy" look.
Skeptic Illustrations
At the end of each lesson, there is an "Answer the Skeptic" portion where students answer the question raised by each "skeptic" character. One of our illustrators at Answers in Genesis, Alexa Carter, illustrated 4 different skeptics that I rotated from lesson to lesson.
Student Guide
Now that all of the color, fonts, and design elements are nailed down, I was able to piece together the student guide. Which consisted of 12 different lessons, and a total of 96 pages. Here are the first two lessons in spreads along with two of my personal favorite spreads from different lessons:
Teacher Guide Cover
After created the student guide, I was made aware that a teacher guide could also be helpful to go along with the student guide. This teacher guide would essentially be near identical to the student guide, however, would have all of the answers filled in. It also includes a separate introduction section which introduces the series and its video components.
For the cover, I decided to introduce a different complimentary color instead of the red to differentiate between the student and teacher guide. Since the teacher guide would only come in a pack along with the student guide, there didn't need to be any major differences in the cover design.
Teacher Guide
Here is what the introduction page looked like along with two spreads that showcase how the answers were shown throughout the teacher guide.
Box
After finalizing the two books, I was then tasked to create a box that would fit both the student and teacher guide together so these could be purchased as a bundle at both the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter as well as the Answers in Genesis website. Here is what the box production file looked like:
